5. Transfer Type
Archival
transfer
involves bringing the original recording to its best possible
playability - usually through a physical treatment process and may involve
more laborious customized setup and calibration efforts for tapes that
exhibit “unusual” reproduction characteristics- then transferring to new
media "as is," without enhancement.
Audiovisual restoration
however, involves an additional stage, whereby the signal is processed to
remove extraneous noise and improve upon the quality of the original.
Physical Restoration
repair or
recovery efforts for degradation or damage.
Please
specify which type of color
correction/transfer
One Light
involves using the first 5 minutes of the film as the
reference for the entire film. During the transfer pass major shifts in
the image may be adjusted on the fly to maintain viability of the image.
Best Light
involves doing an entire first run through on the film and
averaging over the collection of all scenes as the base reference for the
film. In addition to the base reference settings further color correction
settings will be programmed in the first run through for those scenes that
exhibit major shifts. During the transfer pass all color correction
settings are implemented accordingly.
Scene by Scene
involves
customized color correction for each individual scene while maintaining
relativity throughout. Color correction for each scene is programmed in
the first run through and all color correction settings are implemented
accordingly in the transfer pass.
