  ® Akai VTS-100 B/W Portapack System
1972

This system consists of the VT-100, VC-115 vidicon camera and the VM-100 “side car” video monitor. The unit was the most compact and lightweight (20 pounds) portapack of its time. The camera has a 10 to 40mm/f1.8 zoom lens, a “through the lens” optical viewfinder and a built-in microphone. The system is unique in that it records on 1/4” open-reel tape. To compensate for the narrow tape width, the liner tape speed runs at 11 ips, higher than the half-inch systems which ran at 7.5 ips.
