This
ultraminiaturized pocket wire recorder used tiny custom-made steel-wire
bobbins for one hour of recording time. Battery operated, it was originally
fitted with miniature tubes. It was first developed in 1952 by Monske GMBH
of Hanover, Germany. The basic cost was US$289.50. Classed as dictating
machines in the 50s, the Minifon recorders were the worlds smallest
dictating machines, which certainly found their way into some clandestine
applications as well. What makes this specimen so endearing is that it is
still in its original box. |
