  ®The Minifon “Special”
1955

This ultraminiaturized pocket wire recorder used tiny custom-made steel-wire bobbins for one hour of recording time. Battery-operated, it was originally fitted with miniature tubes. It was first developed in 1952 by Monske GMBH of Hanover, Germany. The basic cost was US$289.50. Classed as dictating machines in the 50’s, the Minifon recorders were the world’s smallest dictating machines, which certainly found their way into some clandestine applications as well.
