The VidiPax Museum
|
The VidiPax Museum of
Magnetic Recorders is home to one of the largest collections of magnetic
media recorders in the world. In our ongoing quest to play back any
video and audio format and preserve our media culture, VidiPax is
continually acquiring obsolete record and playback equipment. The
collection is comprised of functional and non-functional artifacts and
is located at our headquarters in New York City. We also have a display
of many common and unusual tape formats and cassettes along with a
collection of promotional and industrial material related to the
machines. |
| |
|
Our
online museum offers a selection of many of the machines we have on
exhibit ranging from benchmarks of media development to the outright
curious, spanning over 90 years of complex technological evolution. They
include early World War II wire recorders used by U.S. Navy and Army
intelligence units, two of the earliest reel-to-reel audio decks and the
VR-1000, the first videotape recorder ever sold. |

The
museum is divided into three sections: wire recorders, reel-to-reel
audio decks and video recorders. Additional information on each of the
machines is available by clicking on the machine title. For many of the
recorders, promotional material and manuals are on display from our
literature collection. |
