Digital Betacam is the digital successor to Betacam and is considered to have almost the same quality as D-1 at half the cost and size. Digital Betacam uses mild data compression (2:1) to record color video, and was the first component digital ENG (electronic news gathering) format to use camcorders with a 40-minute record capacity. Some Digital Betacam machines can play Betacam SP tapes.
