| DESCRIPTION | |||
|
D-2 is a digital composite format and was very successful at the time of its introduction. Some broadcasters used it as a direct replacement for 1". The tapes are the same size as D-1, with cassettes that hold up to as much as 180 minutes of tape. Advances and expectations for component-based advanced television pretty much ended the interest in D-2 or anything else composite.
