Betacam SP (Superior Performance) is an improved version of the original Betacam and was an industry standard for most television stations and high-end production houses up until the late 90s. The improvements included the use of metal-particle tape that is capable of recording a higher bandwidth of video information than the standard oxide Betacam tape.
