Consulting

Our advanced integration and installation consulting service assists organizations in the proper planning of their digital media assets, including assessments to help make informed decisions about collection, mounting, storage and preservation. Vidipax consultants offer planning and cataloging systems techniques developed through years of hands-on work and partner resources.

A digital media consultant will assess your project needs while identifying content, format and redundancy within the collection. This initial assessment will form the framework of the following work performed on the collection. The consultant will work with you to cull unwanted bloat from your budget, in order to be confident that you remain within the required allotment. A customized database is then designed for your collection in accordance with industry standards, assigning catalogue numbers to each film and tape element. The database will record title, format/gauge, date, generation and collection-specific information.

Each element in the collection is inspected to assess condition with respect to age, wear and storage. The consultant evaluates the physical condition of the film or tape and the appropriateness of the storage medium. Conditions are recorded in the database catalogue and are summarized as part of the overall “Condition Report.”

The Archival Management Consultant will evaluate on- and off-site storage options, and recommend storage facilities and methods that will help to stabilize and preserve the collection. The consultant will advise on shelving systems, storage containers, security, temperature and humidity conditions that are appropriate to your organization’s collection and budget.

The consultant will assist in identifying critical issues regarding what should be preserved and how to best address the project. They will assist in choosing the target format that best suits your preservation objectives, access needs and budget
